Halitosis or bad breath is typically caused by bacteria in the mouth, decayed food particles and bad oral hygiene. It can also occur in people who have a medical infection, diabetes, kidney failure, or liver malfunction. Even stress, dieting, snoring and hormonal changes can have an effect on the breath. Certain food like very spicy food such as garlic and onions and drinks like coffee may be detected on someone’s breath for up tp 72 hours. The no- carbohyderate diets increases chances of halitosis. One of the major functions of saliva is to wash away the odor causing bacteria. In our Seattle cosmetic Dentistry office we can evaluate the saliva flow and check the integrity of it in keeping the odor-causing ingredients under control.
Regular checkups will detect any systemic causes of halitosis and also helps to get rid of the plaque and bacteria. Flossing an brushing are two basic ways of fighting bad odor. Tongue harbors a lot of bacteria as well. Use tongue scrapers to clean the tongue. In addition be sure to drink plenty of water. Try to chew sugar-free gum that contains xylitol. If you have dentures, retainers or other dental appliances make sure you thoroughly clean them before putting them in your mouth. Avoid mouth washes that have alcohol as their main ingredient.
One of our patients the other day quoted what she had heard from another dental office: “the three important factors in a design of a smile are the shape, shade and the color of the teeth”. There are a number of dental professionals that practice cosmetic dentistry but there are only a handful that are accredited cosmetic dentists. which means these cosmetic dental designs has been evaluated by an international panel. Smile is dynamic and it is a simplication to call three factors of shade, shape and color as determinant of a smile. A smile in our office is determined on the dynamic state of smile, laughter and speech.
Cosmetic Dental Bonding is the use of composite dental material to esthetically enhance the shape and color of the teeth. Bonding or composite can be used on the back teeth to replace the existing silver or amalgam fillings as well. The composite material in our Seattle Cosmetic Dental office is also used to create cosmetic smiles. This procedure is also called direct veneers. It takes only one appointment to do Dental bonding versus the two or three appointments necessary for an indirect veneer or porcelain dental veneer. The less number of appointments is one advantage of this procedure. At our Bellevue,
Seattle Cosmetic Dental office our goal is to produce the most natural, cosmetic smiles. Meticulous attention is given to a smile produced by the cosmetic dental bondings. Dr Samsavar is the only accredited member of the prestigious American Society for Dental Aesthetics in the State of Washington with a Cosmetic dental office in Bellevue. The other advantage of the bonding is the cost of it. In our Seattle Cosmetic Dental office we charge less for bondings than for veneers. But the disadvantage of the cosmetic dental bonding is its longevity that is almost half the longevity of the cosmetic dental veneer.
Dry socket is a common post-operative condition following the extraction of a tooth. The incidence is particularly higher following surgical extraction of mandibular third molars (lower wisdom teeth) . Cause of this is not completely understood and a bacterial component may be involved. Symptoms include dull, aching , throbbing pain that often begins on the third or fourth day following the removal of the teeth. Bad odor in the site of extraction. Pain radiating to the ear or the eye on the affected side and looking at the socket reveals there are little or no blood clots. The empty space reveals some bony surfaces. At our Bellevue cosmetic dental office our goal is prevention and Dr. Samsavar knows that studies confirm usefulness of preoperative and post-operative rinse of .12% chlorohexidine reduces the incidence of dry socket. Rinsing at the day of surgery and for several days afterwards is a good guideline. No smoking and keeping a good oral hygiene during the healing time is also important.
Lumineers are the trade name for a cosmetic dental procedure that has been around for a long time. This procedure is called prepless veneer. Despite the ads by Dentsply, the company behind Lumineers, these porcelain restorations are not indicated for every single cosmetic case. Seattle Cosmetic Dentist, Dr Samsavar has successfully used Feldspathic porcelain to enhance the smile of his patients. Lumineers are one specific kind of porcelain veneer. Felspathic porcelain has the ability to be bonded to other feldspathic porcelains. At our Seattle cosmetic Dental office we have been able to bond to the existing crowns and bridges and therefore as long as there are no preexsting decay they can be saved.
Seattle Cosmetic Dentist, Dr Samsavar believes nutriton plays a major role in the well being of your smile. “Cosmetic dentistry is a science of beauty and function” says Dr. Samsavar, at his Seattle Cosmetic Dentistry office. Omega-3 fatty acids and the moderate intake of alcohol are being investigated for their ability to help aging brains fight off Alzheimer’s disease and other age related dimentia. Fish are recommended as a part of a heart-healthy diet. Moderate drinking significantly retards progression of dementia. On another research, Penn State nutritionist have stated that munching pistachios each day can keep your blood pressure lower is stressful situations.
The higher level of estrogen in the older generation of the birth control pills increased the rate of periodontal disease. The newer generation have lower levels of estrogen in the hope that they would carry fewer risks. Seattle Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Samsavar recognizes the need for a more closely monitoring of patients that are on birth control pills. The recent studies has shown that more patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis were women who were taking oral contraceptives than women not taking these agents. At our Bellevue Cosmetic Dental office Dr. Samsavar can determine the risk factor associated with periodontal or gum disease.
As you know I love this toothbrush and I believe it is more efficient than the other competitor’s in the market. In my cosmetic dental office I do a test on every single product before recommending it to our patients. But it seems like Ultreo has had some design issues. Some units just stop working after awhile; they just do not get charged. Ultreo originally attributed this to a design flaw in a circuit board of a particular batch but it seems to me that it is more than jsut that batch. I should point out that the company has been very responsible to replace the defective units right away. I have stopped recommending the toothbrush for now though.
Meanwhile sonicare has changed their design and has switched to the pull out head like Oral B and Ultreo. One of the issues with Sonicare was accumulation of debris around the neck of the brush where it attached to the body. By changing the design that issues should be resolved. In their newer model they have also added an UV light brush head sterilizer. It is a nice gadget, if you are a gadget guy but in reality there is no evidence that it really does anything despite what they might say. I would still recommend changing your brush head after an illness like cold or sinus infection anyway.
FDA has issued a warning on the use of denture cleansers. It has asked the manufacturers of denture cleansers to change their label to clarify that their products are designed to clean dentures in a container and not in the mouth. There has been some reports of allergies to one of the ingredients called persulfate including at least one death. Although it seems like most of these reaction were due to misuse of the cleansers but the reaction might also occur when the cleanser is used as directed. Possible signs of allergic reaction may include irritation, tissue damage, rash, hives, gum tenderness, breathing problems, and even low blood pressure. Reactions may not occur immediately and it can occur after many years of use. At Seattle Cosmetic dental office the well being of our patients is our utmost concern. People at risk are those who can not read or understand product labels.
